At Warranty Killer Performance we understand not everyone wants to completely replace the factory clutches with aftermarket primary and secondary. Also it is not necessary in 99% of the units, setup and riding style. Also in 99% of the setups it will not outperform properly calibrated stock clutch’s on the dyno or in the field use. We also understand most do not have enough issues or unhappy with stock performance to justify full clutches or full clutch kits. So we have broken our clutch kits down into stages to keep dollar for gain in mind and budget friendly. We also want to educate our customers on how to move through the upgrade process as well as what you’re gaining and lacking stage to stage till you are happy with the performance and user experience. We also setup every clutch very specific to the unit, setup and riding style of the customer as well as specific characteristics the customer does or doesn’t like. Clutching specifically targeted for certain characteristics has trade off’s. We explain this on all our component pages. Always feel free to shoot us a clutch tech form if you feel our components or description etc do not fit what you are trying to achieve we can always put you together something custom!
Stage 1
- Secondary Spring ($99.99)
First step to getting your current clutch calibration headed in the correct direction is to increase belt clamp across the entire RPM/MPH range. Also increase backshifting and slow upshift rate under any given load. At WKP we like to start with the secondary spring in most cases. WKP has 100’s of different secondary spring rates to taylor to any unit setup, riding style and user preference.
Stage 2
- Secondary Spring ($99.99)
- Helix ($249.99)
Second step is to add the proper helix which is a mechanical multiplier to the spring under any given increase in load. The secondary spring increases belt clamp, backshift and slows upshift all the time whether you need it or not that resistance is always there the rate of the spring never changes. The helix is a mechanical multiplier and only resist upshift and increases belt clamp under load as well as multiples under load or decreases with reduction in load. So if you’re cruising with out accelerating at a steady speed the helix is not multiplying the spring pressure or resistance. When you are accelerating or if you’re at a steady throttle and encounter load a hill or obstacle this is where the helix comes into play. This balances out not having to run really aggressive secondary springs to achieve proper belt clamp at the expense of acceleration and excessive belt clamp when not needed. This would also increase belt temp when not necessary. WKP has 100’s of different secondary springs as well as unlimited number of helix combos as they are custom cut for each application, intended use and rider preference.
Stage 3
- Secondary Spring ($99.99)
- Helix ($249.99)
- Primary Spring ($99.99)
Third step is to get the unit back up close to peak power at shiftout A.K.A. WOT in the gear you will be using for majority of your riding style. The secondary spring as well as proper helix will bring shiftout back up to proper shiftout or close if your current calibration vs unit setup and riding style is drastically different than stock setup. The proper primary spring will adjust the stall, cruising rpm’s, as well as WOT shiftout further to get the unit clutch calibration dead on if your weights are proper for application or closer if you need a weight change. WKP has 100’s of different spring rates, and unlimited helix angles. The combinations are endless to achive a perfect match for your setup, intended use and riding style.
Stage 4
- Secondary Spring ($99.99)
- Helix ($249.99)
- Primary Spring ($99.99)
- Primary Weight Kit ($499.99)
Fourth step is to fine tune the stall, engagement, HP/TQ transfer, and shift curve to the engine power curve, user preference, unit setup and intended use. WKP has 100’s of different weight kits with different total mass, center of mass and profiles to give you the most out of your kit without the sacrifice of most kits with one set of adjustable weights to where mass and center of mass are the only adjustable points. The fewer choices and adjustable points the more you trade off calibrating for specific unit setup, intended use and user preference. We think you get the point WKP did not set out to sacrifice our quality when R&D’ing and designing our clutch kits! We set out to bring to market the knowledge of what each component affects as well as the most versatile clutch calibration options on the market!
